A few weeks ago Lottie from SimplyCharlotteB and I travelled to Cambridge for Etsy’s 3rd UK Captain’s Summit. We spent much of the train journey from Birmingham to London writing up our notes for the short presentations the following morning. We made our 2 connecting trains thanks to Lottie’s careful planning.
With a packed agenda the weekend had the theme of the Great British Bake Off with lots of quotes from the show and a baking themed photo booth. There were some great talks to help us prepare for future events such as the ‘PR 101’ and ‘Reaching your Team goals with Design’.
The ‘Mastering a selling event’ breakout group made me a little nervous as I have a tendency to ramble and lose focus when speaking in groups. It was enjoyable to share our experiences of hosting the first Etsy Made Local Market though, despite my nerves. It’s nice to share what went well and even what didn’t go so well. We also heard plenty of great tips from the other Captain’s that took part so we have a list of things we can do to improve our next event.
Moving forward we feel our first goal is to focus on getting the team to attend regular meet-ups. This is something that Rachel from Spirit of Harlequin and I have been looking into for the last month. At the meet-ups we want to provide education on how best to get our shops and promotional materials ready for events to be hosted later in the year.
Look out for details of our first meet-up for 2016 and we’ll look forward to seeing you there.
For more information about the summit you can read my own blog Dayzee Love Designs. I’d love to hear about any ideas you have for things we can do within the team so feel free to post them in the comments. 🙂
